Palace footprint
Acrylic glazes on wood panel 60cm x 70cm 2013 The station nestles in the blue 'footprint' of the former East Ham Palace Theatre, built in 1906 and demolished in 1958. Ghostly, shadowy figures in the station and theatre windows represent the memories of past communities. They juxtapose with exterior veiled figures, which suggest new communities that now occupy and change the society, playing a part in building the new cultural heritage. Part of a series of 'timescapes' capturing the shifting communities and disappearing landmarks of East London. |
